Staffordshire racing driver, Greg Owens is set to race for victory in the Smarts4You Cup with the announcement of a title sponsorship with West Midlands outdoor kart circuit, Midland Karting for the 2016 season.
Midland Karting is among the country’s leading outdoor kart circuits, offering the thrill of the race track to potential champions and total newcomers alike across three different circuit configurations from their Lichfield-based site.
With a striking new race car livery set to be unveiled at the prestigious Autosport International motorsport show at the NEC in January, Greg will also carry the Midland Karting logo across his overalls and race helmet with a number of exciting initiatives planned on and off-track throughout the season for Midland Karting.
Commenting on the announcement Greg said: “I am thrilled to welcome Midland Karting onboard as my title sponsor as I graduate from my rookie year in circuit racing. The very first time I sat in a go-kart was at the Midland Karting circuit. I later took a summer job there alongside a new apprentice mechanic, current joint-owner Garry Mitchell. This was longer ago than either of us care to remember! Motorsport is an expensive sport, but facilities like those at Midland Karting open up this exclusive world to those of us without vast wealth. It took many years to realise my dream of being a racing driver, but the skills I first learned over countless laps around Fradley Park stood me in good stead; I still get a thrill from jumping behind the wheel at my local track. I had a strong debut season last year but I go into 2016 with two goals: more silverware and a debut win! I would like to thank Midland Karting for their support and welcome them to the Smarts4You Cup”.
Garry Mitchell, Owner of Midland Karting added: “We are delighted to be working with Greg and the team. We’ve helped develop the skills of several budding motorsport stars at Midland Karting and we know talent when we see it!”
The Smarts4You Cup is a one-make series for the iconic Smart fortwo Brabus. These fully race tuned, 125bhp pocket rockets compete over a 12-race series at some of the UK’s most prestigious race tracks such as Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Donington Park. Not only is this competitive, friendly series one of the cheapest ways for the aspiring race driver to get on the grid in a proper race car but it’s also contested by a number of seasoned, experienced racers making for close races and thrilling action.
